AWC Rapid Response Application Process

The American Wilderness Coalition accepts requests for funding from incorporated, tax-exempt organizations, and non-incorporated organizations.

In order to qualify for consideration, prospective grantees must demonstrate that the project for which they are seeking funding fits into AWC's grantmaking focus

There are no deadlines for requests to the Rapid Response grants. The AWC Rapid Response Committee will meet at the end of every month to review and make decisions on pending grant applications.

Emergency funding. Should a crisis or opportunity arise that requires resources on a more expedited basis, AWC will accept "Emergency Grant" applications which will be reviewed and responded to within 3-5 business days.

Generally, requests for AWC Rapid Response grants should be for projects that are time sensitive or don't fit into other regular grantmaking schedules.

Rapid Response projects must be timely and focused specifically on wilderness protection efforts or campaigns at the state, local or regional level. Applicants should provide a compelling narrative/justification, a clear timeline, a detailed budget, and explain why the project has a good chance for success. The proposal should include the following:
  1. Information on requesting organization--organization name, contact names, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address.
  2. Purpose of the request and brief description of the project.
  3. Project outcome(s) and tasks (what action is to be taken and who will do it.)
  4. Timeline and budget for the project (including any additional income sources). Please note that funds provided to any one project or campaign are limited to $15,000 in a calendar year.
  5. IRS tax determination letter if a tax-exempt organization (social security number if an individual).
  6. If the proposal is an "Emergency Request" - please note that at the top of the first page. All other requests will be considered during the monthly application review process.

Rapid Response Fund proposal narratives should be no more than 3-5 pages in length.
