United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator _______:
I am writing to urge you to OPPOSE
any legislation that would open up the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling.
The Arctic Refuge is one of America's
last great wilderness areas. It is home to polar bears,
wolves, and the 129,000-member Porcupine caribou herd.
The refuge is a stop over point for hundreds of thousands
of migratory birds. The native Gwich'in people rely
on the Porcupine caribou herd as key part of their culture
and for subsistence.
We should not sacrifice one of
country's crown jewels for a few months supply of oil.
We can meet our energy needs without destroying our
national treasures.
Please work to protect the Arctic
Refuge coastal plain as designated Wilderness and OPPOSE
shortsighted efforts to open the area to oil and gas
development.
Sincerely,
Your Name
